Homeward Bound

More from the Nikon F2. A bit of Mt Hood & Mt Rainier, with a wind turbine farm just over into Washington from Biggs Oregon. The old meets the new. I'll try to find some more decent B&W pics later, right now it's BEDTIME!

Some Dixon Shots

Not much to say here, just more pics, taken with the Nikon F2

More B&W

These were taken with my Nikon F2, 35mm, two in Condon Oregon on the first night. The pic with the trees in the background was taken the next day, on the road.

Black & Whites Are In

I'll just upload some pics without much comment, except maybe something about the camera & location.

These are from east of Mt Rainier, taken with the 1951 Zeiss camera, with 120 film. I like the imperfections, with a bit of grain.

Pretty Gals Like My Specs

I've been getting comments from attractive ladies on my specs - converted Julbo glacier glasses.   It seems natural for them to try the specs on & a photo op follows.  Even if they only like me for my specs I'll take it!

New Ride?

At a meeting of like-minded friends, someone brought a fine bike - with TWO pedals. Mine only has ONE kicker! She let me try it on for size, I liked it. I think Mosey needs a basket.

Delivery Run

Delivered four rolls of  black & white film to Omega Photo today.  120 shots if they turn out.  I thought I should take Mosby, poor baby got lonely when we were gone.  Pics WITH digital copies done tomorrow so I can post & share. Dang I hope they turn out OK.

Funny thing how the body recovers. I was dogmeat yesterday but felt pretty good back in the saddle today.  Maybe I should go somewhere.  Ah nuts, I have some vehicles at home to work on.

First Day Back

Tired. Bone tired but happy.  I'm really grateful to have hooked up with a bunch of guys who love the old ones, especially Bob The Wizard.  Thanks. More stories, ruminations & thoughts in the days & weeks to come. Time to start planning the BIG Run.

Gear on the Floor

Took my gear off, threw it on the floor, sat in my favorite chair & haven't moved since. Except maybe to get some lovin' from Angel.  Ah. Happy to be home. This trip beat the crap out of me and I'm incredibly happy I did it.

Now I know Mosey is ready for anything.  What a great feeling.

Home

2005 miles later, home again.  What a ride what a ride.  Bike ran perfectly. My biggest mistake was adjusting the valves. The covers are leaking about a quart every 500 miles. But that's an easy fix. Biggie is, I'm home - out and back. Yay!

In the Hills

Somewhere between Chinook & Cayuse Passes.  About a mile high. Panhead Mike couldn't wait to move on, his bomber pants were in his bag, not on his legs.

Sam Hill's Stonehenge

This guy named Sam Hill lived along the Columbia River about 100 years ago, made this Stonehenge replica & did some other interesting things.

A bit of old, a bit of ...

The old & the new

Biggs OR

334 miles for the day.  Long & nice road time. Both bikes doing very very well!

Chemult OR

Late breakfast & gas.  Check out that sheepskin.  Like a cloud under my butt.

Points

Just so y'all know, Panhead Mike installed Paul's points in his bike, on orders from Bob.  And we all know Mike does EVERYTHING Bob says. 'Nuff said about that.

Howard & Angela Made It

They're back home & we're half way.  Howard called Panhead Mike & told him he was rolling the bike up on the lift to start working on it.  Howard is a wildman.

It's just as well Howard isn't with us, the hotel has a sign in the lobby: "UNREPORTED PETS WILL COST YOU $75 ADDITIONAL"

Couple Photos

The bikes at rest.  About 1400 miles since we left Seattle, and very few problems.  The ride isn't over yet but it's really going well.

Klamath Falls OR

Just arrived in Klamath Falls OR, a 10 hour ride.  390 miles, a lot.  We're running a fine line between east & west, too far east and we're running into shut down gas stations, too far west & we might hit rainy coast weather.

So we're running along the east slope of the mountains where there are more bigger towns and gas is available.  We're eating right across the street from a closed gas station right now, in downtown Klamath Falls!

Reading CA

Gassing up. Headed to the Harley store. Spark plugs for Panhead Mike. (Update, 6/24 - we found the HD place but they were closed, no plugs for Mike. Turns out there was no need, we both made it back with no major problems)

Start the Day

Howard gives Panhead Mike a morning hug. Today's destination is Alturas CA. A stretch or two with questionable gas availability so we'll have to do it in steps.

Bison Watching

This guy watched us eating all night.

At Cattlemen's Steakhouse in Dixon

Celebrating the successful completion of the first half of the run.  Two trophys served up nice & hot!

Panhead Mike's Trophy

Panhead Mike got this trophy with 957 miles.  He has quite a bit of difference but his speedometer is original & off a bit.  I rode 6-8 miles to his place before we started so he actually has just a few miles less than me.  Really there should be 2 first place trophys.  We did this together as partners.

Caveat

Blogging from my phone can be tough. It's a great tool but it may have too much capability.  It has auto-speller & sometimes sticks words in that aren't intended.  AND I don't proof as much as I should.

OK the phone is off the hook.  So lemme try again - I don't proof everything so auto-speller takes over sometimes.  Please excuse any errors.  Overall this system rocks!

Longest Ride Sign-in Sheet

When we showed up yesterday, Tom The Host said "I see you Seattle guys are here to collect your longest ride trophys."  So obviously this crowd has a reputation.  Check the sign-in sheet. If you can read it, you'll see I had 1020, Panhead Mike had 957 and the next rider had 90 miles on a 1961 Duo Glide.

I can't believe how fortunate I am. I'll be taking home one of the best prizes I could ever hope to get. Yay!

Back at the Hotel

Party's over, dinking with the bikes at the hotel.  Panhead Mike's bike is still running a bit rough.  It's a long way back, trying to get it right. Besides, Howard must dink.

Mike found a 6 volt coil, they'll probably stick it in & give it a shot.

FLATTIE WON LONGEST DISTANCE!!

It wasn't me, that's for sure, I just delivered the bike to Dixon.  Thanks to the whole gang for the inputs & advice & hard work.  This is a very cool moment in my life. When I bought Flattie I had resigned myself to pooping around town.  now I'm 1000 miles away with a treasure. I'm talking about the bike, of course. The trophy is icing on a 10th year cake - it took that long to get the bike here.
