Bishop CA

Got to Bishop CA about 10,30 after a very long day. Lost almost half a day with the repair to the Flattie, then we had to do 300 miles to get caught up.  That's a Lo.g long run.for these old bikes. It's late, I'm wiped out, so I think I'll sleep.

Silver Julbo Shades & Cruising.

I love these shades!  Check out the reflection.  Shades care of a good friend, kind of a long term loan.

Chuy & The Guys

Chit & the guys. His card is added if anybody needs work in the Indio neighborhood.

The Man Who Saved My Life Today

This is Chuy at Pro Auto Exhaust in Indio CA.  More details later but he did some welding on my rear brake linkage that now has the brake working like I've never experienced.  It had a minor come-apart last nite & had me wondering if I was to complete the trip with only the wimpy front, which is honestly a non-starter.

I'd recommend this guy & his shop to anybody any time. Thank you Chuy & guys.

Field Fix Kit

I have enough tools to rebuild the bike (OK a small exaggeration) but they're buried in the saddlebags.  This is my "Field Fix Kit".  It should work for almost any quick fix, of which there are many.

For The Record

Just so there's no confusion, I love my Flathead.  I love these rides because they test man and machine in a way that few people will ever (ever) have an opportunity to experience.  Just a handful of guys out running around on very old high maintenance machines, all for fun and on our own ticket.

There was a recent old bike run, the Cannonball Rally, or something like that.   It was on bikes nearly 100 years old but those bikes are very very expensive, they had crews & financial support.  We just got us & what we carry, no chase truck, no nothing.  Something goes wrong, we all descend on the problem & fix it together.  If it can't be fixed, we make sure rider & bike are safe and move on, so each of us is prepared to call U-Haul for the lonely ride home, which most of us have done. That's at least part of why I love these guys, we're a bunch of crazy motorheads who love to ride & get dirty.

I don't consider myself to he an owner of my Flathead, I'm more of a caretaker, trying to keep it alive and as original as possible for the one who follows.  I have no plans to give it up. Ever. My time will come & the bike will hopefully be passed to someone who will love as I do.
